Can Micah hold his emotions together to keep Sam alive?

Teaser Sentence(s):

'"The fallen has risen. Back from the dead to walk among the living once again."'

My Thoughts:

This is one of those Kindle freebies that has been on my iPhone for *shrugs* I have no idea how long. I randomly started reading it when I was out and found myself with some time and no book.
I really liked the first half of the story, even though I felt like I was reading something from The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward. The second half just felt like it was written too quickly. Everything was wrapped up in a hurry like there should have been more to it.
The two main characters were awesome. I loved Samantha. She wasn't your ordinary can't-take-of-herself-chick. She is ex-Army and totally bad-ass. The romance between Micah and Sam was believable and didn't seem forced. But the whole story between her and her ex-husband didn't seem well thought out. It just seemed thrown together when the story was having downtime.
I would suggest this to someone who just needed something smutty to read. I enjoyed it enough to finish reading it, but I am glad it was a freebie.

*Update* #3

Wow, it's already time for another monthly update. This year is going by fast already!
So first off, I am sure most all of you have heard that Google is retiring their Google reader on July 1, 2013. (You can visit this link to view the post from Google.) I really hate this. I like being able to sign into blogger and having a feed for all my blogs right there without going to another site, but you just got to roll with it, right? So, from what I have been seeing, Bloglovin' is going to be the new way to go. I started my account there yesterday, and I am working on re-following all the blogs I like to read on Bloglovin'. It's very easy to sign up, it only takes a few seconds, and you can log-in through your Facebook account. Anyway, I am putting a link to follow me in this post, and I appreciate anyone who choices to continue following me that way. If you have an account there please let me know, so I can follow you back!

Follow on Bloglovin

I do not really have much more to update you on. Life has been busy recently, so reading has been slow (bummer). After my brothers wedding in April, I will be on a more consistant schedule.
Okay, that's it for this month. I should get off the computer now and straighten up my house. But it's a dreary, rainy day here, so I think I will just start some laundry and read. Have an awesome day!

I think this is going to be my motto today!

The Sweetest Dark (The Sweetest Dark #1)

The Sweetest Dark
Shana Abe

Release date:
April 9, 2013

Publisher:
Random House Publishing

Pages:
352

Source:
Netgalley *

Reading level:
Young Adult

Description:
Lora Jones has always known that she's different. On the outside, she appears to be an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl. Yet Lora's been keeping a heart full of secrets: She hears songs that no ones else can hear, dreams vividly of smoke and flight, and lives with a mysterious voice inside her that insists she's far more than what she seems.
England, 1915. Raised in an orphanage in a rough corner of London, Lora quickly learns to hide her unique abilities and avoid attention. Then, much to her surprise, she is selected as the new charity student at Iverson, an elite boarding school on England's southern coast. Iverson's eerie, Gothic castle is like nothing Lora has ever seen. And the two boys she meets there will open her eyes and forever change her destiny.
Jesse is the school's groundskeeper-a beautiful boy who recognizes Lora for who and what she truly is. Armand is a darkly handsome and arrogant aristocrat who harbors a few closely guarded secrets of his own. Both hold the answers to her past. One is the key to her future. And both will aim to win her heart. As danger descends upon Iverson, Lora must harness the powers she's only just begun to understand, or else lose everything she dearly loves. -Amazon

Teaser Sentence(s):
'"We are such stuff as dreams are made on," he said softly to the water. "Both infinite and finite, human and not. I'm of comet and clay and the sparks of sun across the ocean waves."' **

My Thoughts:
I liked this book a lot, but it felt like it took forever to figure out what was going on. In a way that bothered me, but it also kept me reading and unable to set the book down.
I loved the idea behind this book. It was absolutely different from anything else I have read. I love dragons and stars, and this was such a different take on them both. I liked all 3 main characters: Lora, Jesse and Armand. I seem to want to favor Armand a little more than Jesse. So maybe the next book will have more of Armand and Lora instead of Jesse and Lora.
This is definitely a darker young adult book. The ending is almost heartbreaking, and the romance aspect doesn't end happily. It did leave me really wanting to know what happens next though.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes their YA reads darker and more emotional.

*I received a free copy of this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for my opinion.

Weekly Poll #4

My weekly poll has quickly became my favorite post of the week. I do not like bogging down my blog with a lot of memes, but I do look forward to getting everyone's opinion each week!

Last week I ask what your favorite paranormals were; Witches and Vampires appear to be everyone's favorite with Angels and Aliens coming in behind that! Zombies received the most 'other' votes.

This week I just want to know your favorite book series. There is no poll or anything to go with this one. Just use the comments section below and tell me your favorites!
My favorite YA series is the Lux novels by Jennifer L Armentrout, and my favorite Adult series is the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. You have until next Friday at 6:00pm to leave your answers. Thanks for voting!

Deity (Covenant #3)

Author:
Jennifer L Armentrout
Release date:
Novemeber 2012
Publisher:
Spencer Hill Press
Pages:
330
Source:
My personal copy
Reading level:
Young Adult

Description:
"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time."

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner...and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But  as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed...and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Teaser Sentence:

'"You shouldn't be doing that." The door handle jingled. It wasn't locked. "Alex!"

"I'm naked," I warned.
Silence and then, "Is that supposed to make me not want to come in there?"'

My thoughts:
It is hard to talk about the 3rd book in a series, without giving away spoilers from the other books, so this one may be a little short.

I think Deity is the best I have read so far in the Covenant series. I sometimes think JLA is trying to send her readers into an emotional breakdown. I wanted to scream, cry, kick and throw a fit throughout this book.
There were finally a few gods that had speaking roles. I have loved Greek mythology longer than I can remember, so I was super thrilled when some of the gods started showing up.
I have decided I am firmly team Aiden. And Deacon and Luke-yep, I like that.
If you have not read this series, add it to your TBR list!

The Morning Star

Author: Tania Penn
Release date: January 10, 2013
Pages: 277
Source: received review copy from author
Reading level: Young Adult

Buy on Amazon

Description:

Being the daughter of Lucifer keeps seventeen year old Dawn Belial busy. For almost her entire lifetime, she has been trying to think of a way to free her Archangel mother, Michaela, whom her father has held captive for centuries  She's also attending high school - balancing trigonometry, history, and recruiting souls for her father along with her wicked half-sister, Venus.
There has been no time for love until she meets mysterious Gabriel, a British exchange student. As they fall in love against their will, she discovers a startling secret about him, and a shocking connection to her mother that changes everything. -Amazon

Teaser Sentence:

'"Hi there." British accent. That's all he had to say, internally I think I started melting. (Really dirty thoughts now.)'

My thoughts:
Books about angels can be either hit or miss in my personal opinion. I feel it's really hard to write one that I like. I was thrilled with The Morning Star. It had lots of angels and talk of the creator, but I did not feel like I was being preached to, or reading an overly religious book.
A Morning Star is filled with well written characters I immediately connected with. Everyone was very well written. I loved the way Lucifer was portrayed. He was still very angelic in his appearance and social standings, but still had the attitude you would expect out of a fallen angel. Dawn-the daughter of Lucifer and an Archangel- is relatable, and an awesome protagonist. She has a lot of good in her, but she is the daughter of the devil. And, Gabriel, he's hot, blonde, and British. (I swear I go into books not knowing there is going to be a guy with an accent.) I think I am in love with this angel.
The feel, the story line, the characters-everything about this book felt fresh and new to me. The only thing I had a problem with was that it ended. (But that's a good thing right?) This is one of those series that I want to have the next book in my hands the day it comes out. I recommend you get a copy now!

Weekly Poll #3

Last weeks poll was 'What should I read Next? YA' edition. I really thought it was going to end up a tie between Toxic by Jus Accardo and Deity by Jennifer L Armentrout. But in the end the winner by two votes was Deity!
All these books are on my TBR list and will be reviewed here soon than later. I just get so flustered when trying to decided which book I want to dive into. It's so much easier to have someone else do it for you! Thanks for voting everyone. I love your input!

This weeks poll is for all those paranormal lovers out there. Which do you prefer to read about? Weres? Vampires? Angels? Faeries? Or something else?  I like books with winged creatures. Not so much angels, but anything else. I have allowed for multiple selections in this poll. If you choose 'other' on the poll make sure to leave your answer in the comments.
Same as always, you have until 6:00pm on Friday to vote. Take an extra second and hit the share button at the bottom of this post. Thanks for voting!

What's your favorite paranormal?

Description:
"I need to get you to the hospital." He was taking responsibility for me. Only my parents had that job. I stretched my hand out in protest, but the lack of depth perception had my trembling fingers grazing his overheated neck. I swore his whole body shook.
When five-year-old Anna Pierce is offered a chance to have nightmare-free nights for the small price of her voice, she jumps at it. Silence has to be better than all-consuming dreams about blood and death and fangy monsters. the bargain she strikes comes with a secondary benefit, visions of a person's future potential. The combination of visions and silence changes her very nature and soon she's diagnosed with autism. Twelve years of living in her head comes to a screeching halt the moment Peter Davis pulls her out of an icy river.
Her new life has her twirling, tiptoeing, and crashing through unfamiliar territory, one filled with a cranky grandma, a knocked up cousin, and unpleasant cousin, a bunch of mostly good vampires and the boy who rescued her.
To top it all off, the deal she made at five is no more. Anna is expected to talk, to figure out her resurfacing nightmares, and to control her ever-growing powers. And she'd better get it done soon because if the good vamps want a piece of a living breathing Touched girl, the evil ones simply want. They''ll take Anna for their very own. -Amazon

Teaser Sentence(s):
'"You're flirting. Peter Davis who never had to work at getting a beautiful woman to melt for him is flirting with odd little Anna Pierce."...

..."I have stashes of chocolate. I love slipping into my soft bed, pulling the covers up to  my chin, and falling off to sleep. I know all the songs your sing by heart. I actually practiced burning grilled cheese sandwiches. Maybe I'm a bit odd too."'

My Thoughts:
I actually had this book on my to-be-read list for about 2 months, and only recently purchased it. I wish I would have bought it sooner!
I love Anna. She is a great protagonist. After over a decade of living in her own non-verbal world she finally gets a chance to have friends and a teenage life. I really like how much of a free-spirit she is. She isn't afraid to dance and twirl when she is extremely happy, and it's interesting to watch her figuring out new emotions like anger.
The vampires in this story are awesome. I like it when vamps do not live up to the old stereotypes (besides the blood-sucking one, they aren't really vampires if they don't do that). There are 2 types in this series, Hunters and Sires. I liked them both for their own special reasons. The Hunters are quick and deadly, and the Sires have two different sets of awesome fangs. With all that being said, on to Peter. Peter is absolutely my new book boyfriend of the moment. He is a hot, stealthy vampire and Anna's watcher. I loved his and Anna's relationship. You could feel the chemistry between them perfectly. I can't wait to see where the next book takes them.
I am excited for the next book in this series. I believe Anna and Peter are only temporarily out of trouble. I know those bad, twin vampires are going to do something. I am curious to see if we get to learn anymore about the 'hippie' vampires in the woods. I also look forward to seeing if Anna discovers anymore of her Touched girl powers. Or at least gets a better control on them.
I definitely suggest you get on Amazon right now and buy your copy!

Flight (The Crescent Chronicles #1)

Description: Sometimes you just have to take flight. A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi. Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.   -Amazon

Author: Alyssa Rose Ivy
Release date: August 15, 2012
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform
Pages: 268
Source: I won a copy
Reading level: Mature Young Adult

Teaser Sentence(s): "Thanks, by the way." He grinned sheepishly and I was afraid to take the bait.
"For?"
"The image. I was wondering what you slept in. Goodnight, Al."

My thoughts: First off, as someone who lives in the south and has traveled to New Orleans (or as we call it NOLA) many times, the descriptions in this book were spot on. Everything from the buildings, to the streets, to the humidity were perfectly portrayed so that even someone who has never been near here would get a great visual.
I honestly had never heard of this book until I saw a tour for the 3rd book in this series. I won a copy of Flight, and I am so glad I did. I really like this series so far. I love my paranormals with wings, and I was thrilled these weren't angels, but shifters. It was a new concept to me and I loved the idea. I really like Allie. She is mature for her age and gets pissed at all the right things. She doesn't let her infatuation with a guy get to her. When Levi screws up Allie takes off. It didn't end up too good for her, but at least she tried. Levi has a lot of making up to do in the next book if he wants to get back on my good side.
I do not want to call the ending a cliff-hanger, but it was abrupt. It definitely  made me want to hurry and get the next two books in the series. I really want to know how Allie handles the situation Levi has put her in.

Grave Bound BOOK RELEASE EVENT/GIVEAWAY

Title: Grave Bound (Secrets, #1)

Author: T. R. Graves

Release date: March 1, 2013

Genre: Adult Contemporary

Age Group: Adult (17+ - profanity and sexual situations)

Event organized by: AToMR Tours

Goodreads        Amazon       Barnes and Noble

Book Description:
Some secrets follow you to the grave. Others send you there.

Emily Riddle has lived her entire life inside a patriarchal commune led by her father. There are many rules, but the most important one, 'keep it in the commune', is the most difficult for her to follow... especially since the only people willing to champion her cause live on the outside. When Emily learns her father has promised her to Lorenzo, a perverted man who has plans for her that extend well beyond marriage and kids, she rebels. Regardless of the consequences, she refuses to marry someone who'd rather beat her than caress her. A day of hooky that starts out as a tiny act of defiance - sneaking out of the commune for a swim - turns into a day filled with hope. After spending time with Levi, a man camping near the lake, she finds what true romance looks like and catches a glimpse into a future that's filled with love and admiration rather than hate and submission. That tiny peek is enough to change the course of Emily's existence and makes it nearly impossible for her to go back to the commune and pretend she'll ever be able to tolerate the life chosen for her instead of the life she longs for. One that includes Levi. Fighting to escape the commune, its leaders, and her fiancé proves to be more dangerous than Emily expected. The secrets she knows, as the leader's daughter, will either follow her to the grave or send her - and Levi - there.

Excerpt:
Levi
God dammit!
I fling the sleeping bag off. Then, I snatch the tent's zipper open and run as fast as I can toward the forest in the same direction Emily went earlier. I have no idea where the fence's hole is or the exact location of her house, but I'm determined to find it and her.

Emily
I hear Levi as he jerks the tent flap open, the twigs breaking under the weight of his all-out run, and his breath as it comes faster and faster. He meant what he said earlier, and he's running to save me.
"Em… there's no way for me to get there quick enough… I want you to tuck my cellphone… somewhere no one will know about it… I want to hear what's going on… Do you understand me?" he says between breaths. The desperation in his voice frightens me more than I am already.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The newest round of beating on the front door causes my hands to shake, but I'm determined not to let that or my racing heart prevent me from doing what I need to do.
"Listen, Levi. You stay put. The last thing I need is for you to make your way into the fence and for Alex or Bobbi to catch you."
"I'm coming, Emily. I don't give a shit what they do to me."
It's my job to make him see reason. It's my job to protect him. From himself.
"Just wait. I'll have the phone with me. You'll know if I need anything. If I do, you can call whoever you want. Okay?"
I can almost hear him as he slows. "All right, Em. I want you to talk loud enough for me to know what's going on… Please."
"I will. I promise."
BANG! BANG! BANG!
This round of knocks is so powerful I think the door's hinges might actually break.

Weekly Poll

Last weeks question was, 'What should I read next?(Adult)' I really thought for a while Lover Reborn was going to win. But the winning answer was Iced by Karen Marie Moning! I have had this book lying around since it was released. Now I have some motivation to crack it open! Look for my review of Iced coming soon!

Okay, for this week's poll, I am asking 'What should I read next?(YA)', since HTML hates me and it didn't post last week. Same rules as before. The poll will be open from today until next Friday at 6:00pm Central time. Thanks for voting!

What should I read next? (YA)
